The Strategy of the Kidney Disease Education Workshop (KDEWS) is to increase community awareness of primary prevention and early detection and prevent and control disease progression in African American communities at risk for chronic kidney disease (CKD). The workshop is designed to educate individuals who are living with or at risk for chronic kidney disease (CKD). Providing self-care workshops is a central part of care. KDEWS provides straightforward and comprehensive information to individuals can encourage self-management and support informed decision making, ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes.
The Chronic Kidney Disease: The New Silent Killer in African American Communities presentation emphasizes the link between health disparities and chronic kidney disease in African American communities. In addition, the presentation speaks on African American history and disparity in the urban communities throughout the United States. The presentation is designed for junior high and high school students.
KDEWS mini-workshop presentation is a forty-five minute – one-hour presentation on chronic kidney disease. Discussed are the causes and preventions for chronic kidney disease as well as diabetes and hypertension. The workshop informs and enlightens participants with information to prevent and understand chronic kidney disease and other health-related illnesses.
